Holistic Reflexology
History of Reflexology:
Reflexology has been around for a long time. Egyptian hieroglyphics show people using it, and the Chinese were aware of the acupressure and acupuncture points of the body 2000 years B.C.
It was rediscovered in the 193Ois by Dr. Fitzgerald, an American ear, nose and throat specialist, who used the techniques to give pain relief to his patients. It was later refined and updated by Eunice Ingram, a nurse in his practice, who mapped out the feet and hands into the zones we use today.
How does it work?
The feet and hands mirror the body and it's Organs.
In reflexology the feet and hands are divided into zones and each zone has an area that directly relates to the body, which when disease occurs, reflects the state of health of that particular area.
The Therapist, by exerting gentle pressure on the area, is able to assist in the healing process by releasing toxins and blockages from the body.
What are it's uses?
Reflexology can treat a variety of problems. It is very effective for stress relief by inducing a state of relaxation. It also helps in supporting the immune system by clearing toxins which are the by-products of pain and disease and the result of our twenty-first century lifestyle with it's dietary imbalances and environmental pollution.
It has been shown to be very effective in treating illnesses such as M.E, migraines, irritable bowel syndrome, arthritic conditions, pre-menstrual syndrome, and many other health problems, especially where the immune system is compromised. It helps to improve circulation of the blood and lymphatic guide, and facilitates homeostasis, which is the dynamic state of balance in our bodies which is our birthright.
What is a treatment?
A treatment consist of an initial holistic consultation where the whole person is taken into account, and a case history is taken. The session continues with the practitioner working the reflexes on the feet by applying a slight pressure to stimulate the breaking up of crystal deposits which are the by products of toxins and ill-health in the body. This enables the body to facilitate it's own healing process.
Furthermore:
By looking at the whole person, and accessing not only the physical, but also the emotional, mental and spiritual aspects, we can go deeper into the cellular body to find the possible cause or origin of the presenting problem. At this point if appropriate, inner journeywork can be used.
